Certificate in Health and Environment





This is a six months programme aimed at increasing the awareness about environment and health and attempts to impart enough skills needed for the conservation of the environment. These knowledge and skills would safeguard against the health impact of adverse environment. This programme is targeted at a wide audience with a basic 10 + 2 background. The programme would benefit in service people like health professionals, paraprofessionals, NGO workers, teachers of schools, colleges and universities, creative writers, senior citizens, nursing home administrators etc. This programme has been developed through a paternship between IGNOU and ACTS ministries, a Bangalore based NGO. The programme was launched in January 2002. It has an enrolment of about 50 learners.

Objectives

The broad Objectives of the programme are to

• Comprehend the principles of environment, health and their relationship.

• Understand and diagnose the problems generated as a result of environmental degradation.

• Acquire competency to apply the knowledge, understanding and skills related to health and environment for personal and social health and well-being as related to environment.

Admission fees : Rs. 1500/-

Duration : Minimum 6 months; Maximum 2 years

Eligibility : 10+ 2 background

Number of Seats : Maximum of 20 per Programme study centre (PSC).

Implementation

The programme will be implemented through a network of Study Centres all over India . The administrative control will be through the regional centres (RC) of IGNOU located usually at state capitals and the School of Health Sciences (SOHS) located at IGNOU head quarters, Delhi .

It is proposed to have one contact session of 2 days duration with the students in the existing study centres of Certificate in Environmental Studies. This programme has one Application Oriented course on Human Environment (AHE). The counsellors of this programme will also act as a counsellor of Certificate in Health and Environment Programme.. On the first day theory counseling will be given to the learners. Discussion about the Project work will be take place on the second day. All other facilities like teleconferncing, library and theory term-end examinaton will be at the study centres. In each study centre, a maximum of 20 students will be attached.

Examination & Evaluation

Term end evaluation would be conducted for both theory as well as Project components.There is no contineous assessment in this programme.Term end examination of theory will be held twice in a year i.e. June and December. The student can complete the two papers within period of two years of enrolling in the Programme, failing which, he will have to re-register himself.

The projects are to be assessed out of a total of 20 marks. There is no minimum pass percentage for passing the project.
