Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital and Health Management





PGDHHM programme is a 32 credit programme (18 credits of theory and 14 credits of practical) including project work. This programme aims at improving the managerial skills of Hospital for the effective and efficient performance of the Hospitals. Medical/Dental Graduates, Graduates in Indian System of Medicine & Homeopathic, Graduates in Nursing, Graduates in Pharmacy, Graduates in Engineering or Architecture associated with Hospitals. This programme was launched in January 2001. Total number of programme study centres activated at present are 17.

Objectives

The broad Objectives of the programme are to

1. Acquire theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills to apply scientific approach to management of people, materials, finance, communication and for organising work and managing resources

2. Learn modern management techniques like inventory canal, control, economic order quantity( EOQ) , operational research organisational development, management information system etc.

3. Plan in advance how to face the problems of hospital management , learn methods of problems solving and decision making.

4. Assess the clinical and non-clinical needs of patient care, understanding the administrative and technical requirements of physicians and paramedical personnel.

Admission fees : Rs. 13,000/-

Duration : Minimum 1 year, Maximum 3 years

Eligibility

The eligibility for the different categories of the target group are :

1. Medical/Dental graduates from a Medical Dental Institute of India or other countries recognised by Medical Council of India ( MCI) or Dental Council and should have two years experience after registration with MCI/Dental Council.

2. Graduates in Indian system of medicine and Homeopathy recognised by the respective Council with five years hospital experience.

3. Graduates in nursing and pharmacy with atleast five years hosptial experience.

4. Graduates in Engineering and or Architecture associated with hospital for five years.

Preference will be given to applicants working in a hospital/health care institution and holding administrative responsibilities.

Number of Seats : 30-40 per programme study centre.

Implementation

Students will be admitted at identified Programme Study Centres (PSCs). 30 –40 students will be admitted at each PSC. These PSCs would be located at the selected medical colleges/ hospitals/management institutes. On admission, each student will be attached to a PSC where he/she will be attending counselling sessions to clear their doubts related to theory component. The local counsellor will also act as a guide for project study to be undertaken by each student during the programme. Three contact programmes of seven days duration each for practical activities will be held in the PSC.

Attendance to these contact programmes is mandatory to qualify for appearing in the final examination.

Examination & Evaluation

Evaluation will be made both concurrent (internal assessment) and Term End Assessment. Internal assessment is given weightage of 30%.There are three theory papers, and term end practical examination carrying weightage of 70%. Student must secure atleast 40% marks in each component and 50% in aggregate comprising of internal and term end assessment. In both the theory and practical, the weightage of the internal assessment will be 30% and that of the end-assessment will be 70% . Student will be declared successful in theory and practical only if he/she scores 50% marks in aggregate combining the internal and term-end assessment. He should obtain atleast 40% marks separately in concurrent and term-end evaluation of each paper.
